Day 5 Daytona to Jacksonville

Smooth start today. All spinnakers are out and we just passed the boats. Team Moose Burd dropped out. They came in yesterday with a lot of repairs and missed the mark at the finish. After going back around the mark they broke the spinnaker pole. Good luck Marleys, don't break anything today!

Finish day 4

It has been an eventful day for the Marleys.  Marleys Orange did not break the mast the chain plate broke, causing the mast to fall. After a tow in, the officials decided to give them an 8 hour penalty after the last boat lands. Marleys Orange will finish last over all, but they will finish. Both Jared and Collin are in good spirits and they want to continue all the way. As for the rest of the finishes tonight, Marleys White had trouble getting in. Chris had to swim out and help them after a wave flipped the boat around. They have many repairs tonight as well. Marleys Yellow was the only boat to finish without any problems. Go Jay and Steve!

1st- Team Tybee
2nd- Velocity
3rd- Marleys Yellow
4th- Full Wave Audio/Accelerated Chaos
5th- Seacats
6th- Cate Fever
7th- Cat in the Hat
8th- Marleys White
9th- Moose Burd

It's been an unfortunate day for the Marleys but it hasn't dampened our spirits.
Stay Strong Sailors.

--Team Marleys

Marleys Orange

Marleys Orange (Jared and Collin) broke their mast and had to get towed in. They are out of the race but in good spirits. Everyone is okay, no one got hurt or anything they are just waiting to be picked up. Jared is going to ask Chuck if they can still finish the race and just not get scored for it. Hopefully they will be allowed to finish for fun. Keep your spirits up sailors, see everyone in Daytona.

Sail strong, don't break anything else!

Start of day 4

The boats are off! Chris had to check the depth of the sandbar and the surf was up. All of the boats seemed to head out ok until Marleys White cruised in with a broken jib. Thanks to Collin's dad who spotted them, the ground crew was able to be at the beach before the landed. Two peanut butter and jellies, a water, some medical tape and a new jib later Marleys White was off again. We just got a call that something broke on Jared and Collin's boat (Marleys Orange) I'll post when we know more.

Start of Day 3- Jupiter to Cocoa

The start was windier than anticipated. The surf was up but luckily no boats flipped on the start. Team Moose Burd had to come in after having trouble with their dagger boards but were able to get back out without any trouble. Ground crews may have delays if I95 is closed due to the forest fires. We're on our way to find gas for the MOHO. The generator isn't running and the ground crew is sweating!!! See everyone in Cocoa.

Good luck, drive hard...

Day 1 starts

Day one has officially started. All of the boats pushed off at 10am this morning and boy was it exciting. The wind, unexpectedly, turned out to blow 15 to 20 knots making today's run up to Hollywood Beach faster than previously expected.
Thanks to Warren, Kaitlyn and I got to go out to the start with power boats to watch everyone and to stay with the bunch for a few miles.
Shortly after the start Marley's white (Dennis and Jason) flipped and had some difficulty getting back over. But eventually got themselves upright and joined in with the rest of them.
As we left them, Marley's Yellow (Jay and Steve)was in the lead with Tybee and Velocity trailing behind. Marley's Orange (Jared and Colin) was in solid 4th and gaining speed.

Reports have come in to say Tybee has had some problems and flipped over.
Hopefully everyone is safe, and Dennis and Jason have caught up.

See ya at the finish line!!

Once again in the Moho.

Aloha!
Today's pre-game set-up went very very well. While all the men met up (Colin and Jared spent some time getting to know each other) the crew unloaded all of the gear and got situated on the beach.  The wind began to pick up at about 3 (as expected) and all the boys got to play. Nothing too eventful happened :)

We had dinner at our wonderful sponser's restaurant (MARLEY'S!!!!!!) it was delicious!
the mosquitoes ended up coming out so right now we're hiding out in the MOHO. :)

Well we're all anxious to get to the start!!!

See ya there!

More Bio's!

Here ar some more bio's for the fans...

Chris Runge aka "The Boat Guy"
Chris has been apart of the Castrol/tiki/Marley's team since 2001. He has sailed numerous Tybee's, Hog's Breath's, and Miami-Key Largo races. Chris was last seen at the 2007 Tybee 500 with Angelina Jolie in the Team Tiki MOHO.

Wish you were here...

Hello to the unfortunate who couldn't be here this beautiful afternoon in sunny Key West, Florida.
This morning's launch was successful for all 9 boats in 2008's Hog's Breath race. And boy, is it windy out here. It's currently blowing about 15 to 20 out of the east. Lucky for those sailors who are truckin' down the coast line. Jay and Steve's tracker has them about an hour away as of now (2:10 pm) but Jared and Dennis' tracker is not on. :( We probably should of checked that one. Oops!
Anywoo, hope everyone at home is enjoying the weather... we are!

For today's ground crew we have: Laurel Sonnenklar, Gabbi Marino, and Chris Runge (aka the Boat Guy).

For those who are lucky enough to be here in Key West tonight, we'll see you at the finish line (we're already here, so bring some waters, towels, and food and stop by our tent, you can't miss us!... we'll make it a party!) and then later on at Hog's Breath Saloon!!!!

Pictures will be posted from the Start and Finish on Monday. :)

Life's a beach.

HOG'S BREATH!

Hello there sailors!
As we pack the sails and lines we'd like to share our team updates with our blog viewers!
For this year's Keys 100, Team Marley's has two boats, White and Yellow, sailing.
On Marley's Yellow we have Mr. Jay Sonnenklar and Mr. Steve Lohmayer. On Orange we have Jared Sonnenklar and Dennis Green. Unfortunately this year Marley's Orange will not be competing due to a college graduation! Congratulations Evan, we'll miss you in Key West!
For more interesting news, our Tybee shirts have arrived! And for once not a week ahead of time. Jay says posing for the graphics on the back was difficult work, but worth it for how awesome they look! We are completely stoked for this year's Tybee 500 and would like to greet the newest member to the Marley's family, Collin Page. Collin is 17 and is a Senior in high school. He will be sailing with Jared on the Orange boat, making these two the youngest team to ever compete in the Tybee 500! Welcome aboard, Collin!
Well everyone, thats all for us. Look forward to pictures from Hog's Breath and team bios for the Tybee.
See you at the Southern Most Point!

Behind the Scenes Bios

It's time to give a round of applause to those who make all of this happen.

...And here are some brief biographies on the people who don't sail:

-Laurel Sonnenklar: Laurel, aka Team Mom, is the Wife and Mother of two sailors of Team Marley's. Laurel has been apart of the Mobil/Castrol/Tiki/Marley's team since the beginning. Laurel is responsible for not only her own kin, Jay and Jared, but their mates, the other sailors, ground crew, and occasionally the left over wheels of someone's boat. Laurel is the main trailer hooker (named for the constant hooking/unhooking of the trailers) and makes this team run smoothly.
-Debbie Sherman: Debbie has been apart of this team for many years as well. Accompanying Terry Greene, long time sailor for the rapidly changing team, she assists Laurel in trailer hooking and is in charge of all the technological devices (cellular tracking, etc.).
-Gabbi Marino: Gabbi has been apart of the team for three years as an assistant trailer hooker for the Orange boat. Gabbi also manages the new Team Marley's blog, assists in planning the seasons apparrel, and helps lay the logos on the sails.
-Evan Greene: Evan has been the pusher for the white boat for past Tybee's and assists in setting up and breaking down all the boats.
-Chris Anselmo: Chris helps out as a pusher for any boat that needs it, Chris also helps set up and break down the boats at the start and finish.
